Great Community Neighborhood Charm Church Pool Lost School New School
Lincoln Park athletic teams have sported either white on green or green on white. Therefore, green has been chosen as the color of the header backgrounds and of links throughout this website.
The following document is Page 1 of a two-page flyer that promoted a past community event. The writer probably did not know Lincoln Park has a Weather Bureau.
Note: A thunderstorm developed within an hour after photographing the above swimming pool scene, which then delivered 3/4 inch of rain in a quarter hour to LPWB, located 0.1 mile E of pool site.
The Lincoln Park Elementary School for the most part was built during 1954 into 1955 around the "front and center" part which was built several years earlier. In addition to school classes, the building was used for community events, scout meetings, a polling (voting) precinct, and more. Kindergarten through 6th grade classes continued through the 2011-2012 school year. Since then, elementary school children have been transported to and from the Shiloh Hills Elementary School, located 3 miles SW of Lincoln Park. The LPS building sat idle until its demolition during late February 2014. The Wilson School District determined the building was too costly to maintain as a viable elementary school. It has been said the next Wilson School District elementary school is to be built on this site. Few think that could occur rather soon, but most will believe it when they see it. Meanwhile, the school district has been doing a reasonably good job in maintaining the site and adjoining playground.

If you thought the LPWB logo design resembled a past landmark in Lincoln Park, you are right. Compare the logo with the "LPS" and 1954 date block structures in the gallery below. And please enjoy this gallery (all photographs by LPWB) of this memorable school building. The spot where the date block was situated is 0.1 mile SSE of LPWB.
Wilson School District feasibility study indicates construction of a new K to grade 5 building on the site of the lost Lincoln Park Elementary School is the most viable course to alleviate overcrowding due to ever-increasing elementary school student enrollment. During February 2024, WSD mailed Lincoln Park households a more definite statement about the proposed elementary school. This official WSD webpage indicates construction to begin summer of 2025 and completion in time for onset of 2027-2028 school year.
