Reading PA (RDG) Records

The official RDG records set was derived electronically and objectively via the ThreadEx algorithm.  However, the database used as input is riddled with numerous observational, clerical, and other kinds of errors, mainly during the post Weather Bureau era and before the ASOS era (1970 -1998), and subsequently became assimilated in the ThreadEx products.  Further, this set is not an apples-with-apples comparison as daily observations during the above period ended early morning rather than around midnight as has been with the great majority of years..  And this caused many high temperature records to chart the day after they actually occurred.  Even more, the Weather Bureau of old did not include a stray fragment of temperature data during 1888 and 1889 as ThreadEx does.  Continuous and reliable temperature data began 1898.  Precipitation data began in 1869.  Therefore, a second records set was derived manually, with corrected data used for input, and all temperatures adjusted to calendar days.
